Cocoa Amaranth Energy Balls
If you’re anything like me, 3pm is danger time.
Low energy, cravings kicking in, and suddenly anything sweet looks tempting.
That’s exactly why I created these Cocoa Amaranth Energy Balls — my go-to emergency snack for busy families!
There are certain recipes that just become part of your life without you even realising it — and these energy balls are exactly that for me.
I first started making them because I needed something quick, something healthy, and most importantly, something that would stop me reaching for sugar in the middle of a busy day. That moment in the afternoon when energy drops and cravings kick in… I used to struggle with that a lot. And I know so many women, especially busy mums, feel the same.
What I love about these is how simple they are. I can make them in minutes using my Thermomix, and I know exactly what’s going into them. No hidden sugars, no unnecessary ingredients — just real food that actually fuels my body. The natural sweetness from the dates combined with the richness of cocoa makes them feel like a treat, but without that heavy feeling or sugar crash afterwards.
And the best part? I never feel like I’m missing out. That’s what sugar-free living is really about for me — not restriction, but finding better ways to enjoy the foods we love.
This is one of those recipes I always come back to. Simple, nourishing, and something I genuinely look forward to eating every day.
Summing up :) they’re:
✔ Naturally sweet
✔ No refined sugar
✔ Ready in minutes with Thermomix
✔ Perfect for insulin balance
And honestly? They taste like chocolate treats… without the crash.
Safe for small & bigger children, kids on the spectrum (especially, if them make them themselves!)
Recipe: Cocoa Amaranth Balls - Cookidoo® – the official Thermomix® recipe platform
You will find agave syrup in this recipe (low IG index), however in my version I use half or one banana (depending on size).
If you don't have amaranth, use chia seeds :)
Enjoy!

A simple swap for store-bought sweets!
There are days when you kiddos want something sweet.
Not complicated, not boring — just something that feels like a treat.
This is one of my favourite simple swaps. No skills or equipment required!
It takes minutes to make, looks beautiful, and gives you that sweet, chocolatey satisfaction… but in a much more nourishing way than anything you’d grab from a shop.
Fresh apple slices, dipped in rich chocolate and finished with crunchy nuts or seeds — it’s one of those little things that makes healthy eating feel easy.
And trust me, YOU WILL BE SURPRISED!
Ingredients
- 1–2 fresh apples
- 80–100g dark chocolate (ideally 70% or higher, no added sugar if possible)
- A handful of chopped nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts)
- Seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, chia — whatever you have)
- Cranberries or anything else you like!
Method
Slice the apples into rings and remove the core to create that nice “donut” shape.
Melt the chocolate gently, either in your Thermomix or over a bain-marie (water bath), until smooth and glossy.
Dip each apple ring into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off slightly. Place them onto baking paper and immediately sprinkle with your favourite fruits, nuts and seeds while the chocolate is still soft.
Let them set in the fridge for about 15–20 minutes until the chocolate firms up.
WHY?
- perfect for kids, guests, or those moments when you’d normally reach for packaged sweets.
- once you try it, you realise how easy it is to create something better at home.
- it’s quick, it’s real food, and it satisfies that craving without leading to more cravings later.
Try and let me know what you think.
